Sheep
The 4-H sheep program teaches youth about selection, production, management, marketing and health of sheep and wool production. There are seasonal meetings to learn about sheep and showing sheep.
Poultry
The 4-H poultry program teaches youth about chickens from the egg to the table. Students can get involved in embryology, poultry judging, growing and managing a small flock of chickens. 4-H members can become a member of the 4-H Chick Chain by purchasing baby pullets from 4-H and raising them for the 4-H Poultry Show & Sale at the Karns Community Fair in July. Applications for the Chick Chain are taken in December. 4-H’ers can also participate in 4-H poultry judging which teaches them how to evaluate chickens and their products.
Swine
The 4-H swine program teaches youth about the selection, production, breeding and management of swine. 4-H’ers may purchase a hog for show and sale in August. The projects ends after the State show in January.
Dairy
The 4-H dairy program teaches youth about the selection, production, management, health and showing of dairy animals.
Horse
The 4-H horse program allows youth to develop horsemanship skills. They learn skills through educational activities such as horse judging, horse bowls, hippology, speech and demonstration contests. You do not have to own a horse to be involved.
Rabbits
4-H members will learn more about the care and responsibility of owning a rabbit. They will also have the opportunity to learn about rabbit breeds and shows. There are monthly meetings at project group night.
